Just in case anyone is planning on heading to the hills in the Chiang Mai /
Mae Hong Son region - There is a higher than normal instance of Dengue Haemorragic Fever at the moment, so make sure you take a good mosquito repellent and use it (note - the infectious mozzies attack during the day, so don't think you only need it at night). My wife reports that Pai hospital is treating quite a few patients, and there is a programme of 'dusting' homes and offices around town. _______ Geoff B -- |

Up to last Saturday, 41 307 patients have been diagnosed nationwide with dengue haemorrhagic fever [DHF], and Bangkok was the hardest hit with 3763 patients, according to the Disease Control Department's Bureau of Epidemiology. Ratchaburi suffered the 2nd worst outbreak with 1710 victims, followed by Nakhon Sawan with 1582, Phetchabun with 1304, and Rayong with 1291. Vichan said the risk of catching dengue fever from mosquitoes this year was running high compared to last year, which saw 29 fatalities out of 60 000 cases (...) source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2008/08/01/national/national_30079476.php And several sources say the situation in Vietnam is following the same pattern...
