Is there any "dodgy" place (eg: Eastern Europe or some obscure part of
America) where it is easy to become a licensed travel agent and obtain true agent discount fares etc? |

However, it has been replaced by a new scam, selling worthless ID to naive individuals. Might be worth getting into a new business. edwardseco |

Fares for what? You don't really get discounts on airfares since the airlines don't pay. You can save the commission on hotel bookings with the hotels that still pay those. There are some FAM trips which is about the only reason to be a travel agent. If you can generate some business, your local agency may make you an outside agent, but you won't get any FAM trips or discounts if you don't produce some revenue. -- McWebber www.WorldsBestDeals.com No email replies read If someone tells you to forward an email to all your friends please forget that I'm your friend. |

I guess that is why places are starting to charge "admin fee" for hotel / flight only booking now. ---------------------------------------------------- reverse my email address, and remove the obvious spam traps to reach me by email. http://www.callthrough.tk/ = site not updated. |

The admin fee would probably be for the airline ticket unless they're dealing with a hotel that doesn't pay a commission, or caps the commission at $20 no matter what the cost of the reservation is. In this day and age I don't know why anyone would visit a travel agent for just an airfare/hotel booking when it's so easy online. Even without Internet access many people visit their local library for that. -- McWebber www.WorldsBestDeals.com No email replies read If someone tells you to forward an email to all your friends please forget that I'm your friend. |
